Our Story

It started with a little pumpkin.

Nurtured Pumpkin began with my son, Niko.

Like so many parents, when I began choosing things for him, I wanted to surround him with things that felt good, beautiful and considered. But I found myself searching for something that was surprisingly difficult to find: baby clothes and everyday treasures that felt genuinely special.

So much seemed to be produced in bulk, with similar designs repeated again and again, often made from blends of cotton and synthetic fibres. Even when I found natural materials, pieces could feel either very plain or far beyond what I wanted to spend.

I started wishing for a place where I could find fewer things, but better things — natural, beautifully made pieces with personality, purpose and the kind of quality that makes you want to keep them.

And slowly, Nurtured Pumpkin began to take shape.

A little of where I come from

My love of natural materials isn’t something I discovered recently.

I grew up with a mum who cared deeply about what we brought into our home. My brother and I were raised with organic food, cotton and real wool clothing, wooden and metal toys, painting and musical instruments. There wasn’t an endless stream of things, but the things we had were chosen with care.

Looking back, I think she quietly taught me something that stayed with me:

Good things don’t need to be numerous. They need to be meaningful.

They should feel good, serve a purpose, last well and be worth looking after.

Now that I have my own little one, I find myself wanting to pass that feeling on.

Why “Nurtured Pumpkin”?

Nurture means to care for, protect and help something grow.

And Pumpkin has that wonderfully tender feeling of a little term of affection — something warm, fond and endearing.

But, honestly, there is another reason.

When I think of the name, I picture Niko as a tiny little pumpkin. 🥹

Something small, precious, full of life and completely deserving of being cared for.

That is the feeling I wanted the name to hold.

And so, Nurtured Pumpkin

Nurtured Pumpkin is my attempt to create the kind of little shop I found myself wishing for as a mum.

A place where natural materials, thoughtful design and lasting quality matter.

Where a little outfit can be something you are genuinely excited to see your child wear.

Where a wooden toy can become a favourite, then a keepsake, then perhaps something another little one will one day love.

Where you don’t feel encouraged to buy more simply because you can.

Instead, you can discover a small collection of things that feel worth choosing.

I’m still at the beginning of this journey, carefully building Nurtured Pumpkin one piece at a time and looking for makers and brands whose values feel at home here.

But the idea behind it is already very clear:

To nurture little ones with things chosen with love, care and intention.

And perhaps, years from now, some of those things will still be around — carrying little traces of the childhood they belonged to.

That would make me very happy.

With love,
